Sailor started with a jam session in a small basement bar called Little Mac's in downtown Boise.  Carter, Les and then drummer Danny Bronson were playing the club with a three piece band called Of Cambrian Heritage.   Dave Brunn's Hammond B3 was still on the stage at the time and he sat in.   Impressed with Dave's mastery of the B3, they asked him to join the band.   Shortly afterwards, Danny left for Europe and Jimmy Fisher took over on the drums.  They changed the name to Sailor (taken from the Steve Miller album) and started working up original songs as well as cover tunes.

Sailor played various venues in Boise in 1970 and 1971,  including The Fiesta Ballroom, and opened for Sugarloaf at the Egyptian Theater.
